How can we get on track to meet our climate goals and limit #globalwarming?

The global stocktake at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (#COP28) is an opportunity to turn the wheel around and tackle the #climatecrisis together.

The stocktake is like taking inventory.

It looks at everything related to where the world stands on climate action and support, to identify the gaps, and work together to chart a better course forward to accelerate climate action.

Science is already telling us the likely finding of the stocktake process: We are off track and need to course-correct immediately.

“This is a critical year for climate action,” said UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell. “The global stocktake at COP28 must be the turning point where we get on track to limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.”

Heatwaves in Europe will become more frequent, more intense and will last longer.

The risks from heatwaves are higher for the elderly, pregnant women, small children, people with pre-existing health conditions and low-income groups.

By 2050, about half of the European population may be exposed to high or very high risk of heat stress during summer, particularly in Southern Europe and increasingly in Eastern Europe and Western and Central Europe.

Implementing adaptation measures is important to reduce the risks of future heatwaves.
